A profile of dog trainer Conny Sporrer

Conny Sporrer puts her whole heart into being a dog trainer. She not only runs her own dog school in Vienna, she also shares her experience in dog communication through books, online courses and even a podcast. Her goal: understanding communication between humans and dogs for a better quality of life at both ends of the leash. Conny is always writing articles for DOG'S LOVE in which she shares her expertise. 

As a qualified advertising specialist, she could not have foreseen that she would one day become a dog trainer. But then Morillon came into her life. The young crossbreed dog from the shelter drove his owner to despair with his behaviour. Leash aggression, social intolerance and no respect for dogs and humans alike, Morillon worked the whole spectrum up and down. After several attempts to find a dog school that could help her and Morillon to live together better, Conny finally came across Martin Rütter and his training method DOGS, the Dog Orientated Guiding System.

The DOGS method was not only exactly what turned Conny and Morillon's relationship around, it was also her motivating reason for becoming a dog trainer herself. Being able to understand dogs and train them ‘neither with cotton wool nor violence’ was her incentive to complete the two-year training with Martin Rütter in Bonn. 

Since opening her own dog school in 2013, Conny has already been able to help almost 10,000 people and their four-legged friends to live together more harmoniously. In addition, she has published three books so far, has become known to a wide audience through TV appearances and reaches numerous people at home and abroad with her podcast ‘Hundestunde.’Her latest project, the online dog training school hundetraining.me, further expands the reach of her message. 

Conny explains that most problems in dog training are based on misunderstandings. She therefore considers her main task to be making people aware of how our furry friends communicate and what their needs are.It is important to her that owners get involved with the language of dogs and really want to learn it. Because if misinterpretations lead to a bad relationship, this is also a hindrance to training. 

To all those who might like to train to work with dogs themselves one day, Conny advises them to realise that as a dog trainer you work with people first and foremost. Of course, you have to be able to understand and interpret the dogs' behaviour. But the joy of working with two-legged friends is essential for supporting human-dog teams.

By the way, if Conny were an animal, she would definitely be a dog. Probably a terrier that needs to be kept very busy. I wonder what Morillon would have said about that!
